Decorating your Country Home

Farm homes are all about comfort and charm – they should be relaxing, cozy and full of character. Originally farm homes were decorated with whatever was available, and while there is nothing wrong with this tried and true method, I also love a home that pairs sophistication and style with hand-me-down items and flea market finds. Twice a month we would love to bring you tips and tricks to help you create the perfect home for you and your family.

This month we think it’s a good idea to start off with a few basics! We will look at things like colors, furniture, and even suggest a few accessories that will help bring everything together.

If you are more of a classic country home person, then I suggest soft muted colors that show signs of wear. Items like our Sawyer Mill Blue Collection offer that soft and worn look, but look sophisticated.

If you prefer a more contemporary look, brighter colors with pops of red, black or white are a perfect choice! For extra flair choose a floral, checked or striped fabric – like our Annie Buffalo Check, the blue and floral Briar Azure Collection, and the Sawyer Mill Ticking  Stripe Day Bed Quilt Set.

We all know that the best furniture for a country style home is the kind you might find in your grandmother’s attic or your favorite local flea market. Not only are they cheap (or sometimes even free!) second-hand furniture items add warmth, charm, and character to any home.

Now that you have your colors and furniture, you will need accessories to pull everything together. I love items that mix form and functionality – like woven wicker baskets which are perfect storage for blankets! Warm colored blankets, throws, and rugs like our Tea Cabin Collection will add depth and comfort. Other great items are wooden bowls, handmade pottery, pewter and hand-forged metal.

I hope these tips have given you some ideas and inspire you when bringing country cute into your home. Be sure to check out our next blog for more fun and useful information, until then – happy decorating!
